Corporate Responsibilities

We want to do business in a way that’s fair, ethical and respectful to our surroundings, like finding ways to be greener, and keeping our customers safe.

Our vision is to become a Corporate Responsibility leader in our industry. Our products and services play a big role in people’s lives and they’re a useful part of modern life. We want to maximise the positive role we play.

We take our responsibilities very seriously; delivering services to customers across the UK requires a strong focus and commitment to be a responsible business be it environmental, Health and Safety, or our commitment to our employees and customers. We operate a number of different policies which are summarised below under “Our Responsibilities”:


The way we choose to live has a massive impact on our planet. That much is clear. So we’re doing whatever we can to cut our CO2 emissions, use less energy and make sure the energy we do use comes from renewable sources. We recognise that all our activities have an impact on the environment in one form or another and it is therefore our objective to minimise these effects through having an effective Environmental Management System (BS EN ISO 14001:2004).

We´re using more video and teleconferencing, so that we don´t have to take as many car journeys, flights and trains.

Reduce, reuse and recycle. It´s not a new message, but it´s still an important one. We´re working hard to cut down on the amount of paper we use, send less rubbish to landfill. We now use 50% less paper than we did in 2010, and that´s thanks to many different initiatives. We now recycle nearly 40% of our waste, but we´re working on ways to recycle more.

We’re working hard to raise environmental awareness and vigilance in employees at all levels within SCS and ensuring they take appropriate steps to control his or her actions in a responsible manner.

Our biggest impact upon the environment is our vehicle fleet and consequently we have a policy of sourcing the lowest emission vehicles that are fit for purpose. All vehicles are fitted with speed restriction devices which reduce CO² emissions.

We have installed solar photovoltaic systems on our own premises and will continue to investigate new environmentally friendly technologies.

Health & Safety

We are fully committed to a process of demonstrable, continuous improvement in the pursuit of health and safety excellence. Robust systems and controls enable us to proactively manage our health and safety activity with the aim of achieving zero accidents. This is managed through our Health and Safety Management System (BS OHSAS 18001:2007).

Delivering safe systems of work is critical to our business. Our diverse range of services requires a comprehensive approach to training and delivering safe systems of work. All our engineers receive a full Health & Safety induction course. Our safety culture runs throughout the company, irrespective of project type or size. We have a full time NEBOSH and tech-IOSH trained Health & Safety manager and also employ a full time external Health & Safety consultant to ensure that we are kept up to date with all matters ascertaining to Health & Safety.

We continue to actively develop mutually beneficial relationships with all those with whom we do business. We regularly review our business processes with a view to improving quality and productivity, thereby enhancing our ability to create value, whilst at the same time working to achieve the aspirations of sustainable development. In support of this, all areas of the business are encouraged to innovate and share knowledge in the pursuit of a continual drive for excellence.
